If the words spicy lentil patties don’t cause your mouth to salivate, you haven’t tried these yet! Well, how could you when I’m just now, for the first time, sharing this tasty lentil recipe? If you love lentils, falafels or other veggie-based patties or cakes – you’re going to love these.

You can have them for dinner or lunch, but they make a pretty great appetizer as well. Serve with some tzatziki or cashew garlic sauce and some salad for the most satisfying result.

Spicy Lentil Patties Ingredients
Cooked Lentils. You will need lentils that are already cooked for this recipe. Simply add lentils to a cooking pot with enough water to cover them completely, as well as some salt. Cover the pot and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes or until lentils are tender. Make sure to adjust for salt.

Spinach and Parsley. You can also choose to add other herbs or greens, these were the ones I had on hand.
Fresh chili pepper, onion and garlic. This is where the spice and the intoxicating aroma come from. These ingredients are a must-add for the lentil patties! Except for if you don’t want them spicy, then you can omit the chili pepper and use sweet one.
Flax and oats. These will help to keep the patties together. They’re pretty delicate, so adding some ground flax and oats will help to make them more “stable”. Another way to hold them together better is adding an egg to the mixture (if you’re not vegan).
Mint, Chili Powder and Olive oil. Adding some more flavor and making the frying possible!

How To Make Spicy Lentil Patties
Cook the lentils according to package instructions (or to my instructions above if you choose to) if you don’t have already cooked lentils.

Wash and thinly chop the spinach, parsley, onion and the chili pepper. Peel and mince the garlic.

Add the cooked lentils, spinach, parsley, onion, chili pepper, garlic, mint and chili powder to a big bowl and blend half way with an immersion blender. Add in the ground oats and flax and mix everything well together.

Grab some of this mixture and shape a small patty. If it doesn’t hold well, blend the mix a bit more (but leave a good part of it, chunky). If it does hold well, continue making patties.

Add olive oil to a pan and fry the lentil patties for 5-6 minutes on each side. Don’t put the patties too close to each other to allow proper flipping. While flipping make sure to get the spatula under the entire fritter. They’re pretty tender and may fall apart if not flipped properly.
Continue doing this until you run out of lentil mixture.

How To Serve
The best, most delicious and healthiest way to serve the lentil patties is with salad and some tzatziki, avocado dill dip or cashew garlic sauce.
How To Store
You can store the leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge. Make sure to reheat in the oven for 5-10 minutes next time you serve them.
